Breaking Waves on Poipu Point Lava Cliffs
from the Natural Landscape series
On the south shore of the island of Kauai, the lava cliffs at Poipu Point have been undercut by millions of years of rough surf. Wave after wave approaches the coast, and most hit the rocks with little fanfare. But every now and then, a wave hits such that it crashes up with a deep boom, spraying salt and mist into the humid Hawaiian air.
